We’re on a roll here with the sixth episode of DJ Nth the Afterparty Podcast. Recorded in November of 2001 after some great desert parties and you can hear the dust crackling on some of the records. This CD is actually a pivotal point at which I started to acquire more and more tracks from MP3s downloaded from the Internet when they couldn’t be found on vinyl and most tended to be low quality 128 kbps or just slightly better so the fidelity of this mix isn’t a great as I would have liked it to be but then I was probably recording it into a soundcard with questionable AD converters anyhow.

This CD was recorded during one of those magical periods of time where there were just so many great songs released within a few months of each other that the whole CD is just stacked with great tracks, but my favorites would include: Ratty “Living on Video”, Orion vs Ayla “Eternity”, Janet Taylor “Another Day” remixed by York (which I edited the vocal out of the breakdown), DJs @ Work “Someday” and Scooter “Ramp” which I remember slowing down to 33 during the breakdown because I didn’t like the vocal sounding like a chipmonk then speeding it back up before it kicked back in. One track I would love to remove from this mix is “Bailar”, the La Bamba track, by the Pumpers. It’s just a bit too cheesy…ugh!

The fifth episode of DJ Nth the Afterparty Podcast has arrived from the dark cold archives of my hard drive. Recorded almost immediately after Transistor in the Summer of 2011, this CD is more representative of what I was playing at the time in fact I believe I played this exact set at a small dark and sweaty party from UnEarthly productions in some unused and previously unknown business district in Phoenix somewhere. The CD cover is my pathetic attempt at creating some 3D imagery, but at the time most DJs didn’t even bother to create CD art at the time. At that time Photoshop skills where much more rare than they are today and that was probably the primary reason why.

Some of my favorite tracks from this mix include DJ Tandu’s remix of “Prepare” by Neo Cortex, Sylver’s “Forever in Love” remixed by Greencourt, and Mario Lopez’s “Blind” remixed by CJ Stone (Yeah CJ Stone was my favorite producer back then).

On to the fourth episode of DJ Nth the Afterparty Podcast. Recorded in June of 2001 after finally collecting enough tracks for what I considered more of a Progressive sound at the time. It was still very much Epic Melodic Trance it just had a slightly different feel than what I usually played, more of a somber mood. My friend, Jay, pointed out to me that the spark plug, from my CD cover, wasn’t a transistor. I decided that a spark plug was more interesting looking than a real transistor so I keep the image and title.

CJ Stone’s track Infinity was one of my favorites to play around that time when I was DJing and I got lots of trainspotters trying to make out the text on the record label when it was playing. Other favorites from this CD include two great vocal tracks in Talla 2XLC’s “World in My Eyes” and Lange’s “Follow Me” and a great closing track from Jose Amnesia with “The Eternal”.

Gangsta Trance 2 CD insert

Moving on to the third episode of DJ Nth the Afterparty Podcast. This mix definitely helped to get me more prime-time spots at many of the local events and was the most requested CD of all time at Swell Records in Arizona. This mix features two songs that I got endless requests for “Mad World” which is a great cover of the timeless Tears for Fears song and “Paint it Black” which is a cover of the Rolling Stones classic. But my favorite song on this CD and quite possibly my favorite Trance track of all time is “Light a Rainbow” by Tukan. Looking at the tracklisting again I can see why this mix was so popular as it’s just loaded with lots of really great tracks by lots of really great producers.

TranceGenerator CD Insert

Welcome to the second episode of DJ Nth the Afterparty Podcast. TranceGenerator v1.0 was recorded shortly after Gangsta Trance 1 most likely in early 2000, sorry it seems so long ago it’s hard to remember a more accurate date. The TranceGenerator Series was intended to be an ongoing theme for the DTS Trance DJs but it didn’t get past v2.0 which was recorded by DJ Michael (MyKill). I hope to eventually get Michael’s version on here in the near future as well. This mix features some great tracks from Cosmic Gate, DJ Helios, Ratty, DJ Shah and a super crowd-pleaser by Pac-Men who I never saw another track from. This is Epic Melodic Trance with an emphasis on the Epic.

Welcome to the first episode of DJ Nth the Afterparty Podcast. I am going to take this way back to the old school and post all of mix CDs starting from the first to the most recent then continue to add new mixes as I create them. So on to the music…

This was my first official Mix CD recorded somewhere around 1999. I remember that it was a couple of minutes longer than the 80 minute limit for audio CDs so I sped the whole mix up in Soundforge to make it fit on a CD. I tended to play a little faster than the rest of my fellow 100% Natural Groove/DTS DJs but this one ended up being faster than usual and was almost Trancecore. So the Gangsta Trance Series was born. Very fast Melodic Trance.
